Day 14: Renewed Strength
Day 14: Renewed Strength
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
Has it ever occurred to you that our God never gets tired? Ever? But sometimes we do! We sometimes find ourselves worn down by the “worries of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desire for other things”. One writer has called it “hurry sickness.” Another has called hurry as the “pain that people applaud.”
And yet in this passage, God’s Word promises us the capacity to soar like an eagle, run like a gazelle, walk without fainting. It depends upon the one thing that is extraordinarily difficult for us: Waiting. We don’t like to wait in line or for our food to be served or for a Breakthrough to happen for us. And yet God’s word says renewal and breakthrough comes by the simple act of “waiting on the Lord.”
The word for “wait” in the Hebrew is used of a vine that clings tightly, wraps itself tightly around a trestle. Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Think of yourself as a vine that clings tightly to the one who can make you soar, even when you are tired of waiting on the miracle you long to see happen.

Prayer Focus:
Pray for renewed waiting capacity. LORD, I confess that I am a 21st Century, modern, impatient soul. And I find myself in the Waiting Room. Please grant me the grace to refuse to take matters into my own hands. Help me not to try and take matters into my own hands, but instead to trust you completely for the breakthrough I long to see, especially in (…you fill in the blank!)
Reflection:
How can you rely on God’s strength more fully in your life?
