Day 17: God’s Commission for My Life

Day 17: God’s Commission for My Life

"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:18-20

“It's Personal.”  This text is famously known as The Great Commission. Jesus says here that He has given us “all authority in heaven and earth.” A “commission” in the armed forces is delegated by the Commander in Chief for a soldier to act on his behalf.  Based upon the resurrection, Jesus has become our Commander in Chief, and these are his marching orders.  But the question that we must all ask ourselves is this: has it become personal for me? Is the great commission just a lofty idea for “the church” in a general sense? Or is it personal? Is it my mission to make disciples of all nations, or is it “somebody else’s job?”

If it hasn’t become personal, if it hasn’t burned itself into the very core of your being, then you haven’t become the disciple Jesus has “commissioned” you to be -- a disciple who makes disciples, who makes disciples, until it has been proclaimed to the whole world. It all starts with me!

“This gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” — Matthew 24:14

Prayer Focus:

LORD, grant me the courage and boldness to live out the Great Commission in my own personal life. I pray that You would open my eyes to the people He has called me to reach and give me wisdom in how to disciple them. I surrender all my plans and dreams to join You in what you are doing to transform the entire world by the “Gospel of the Kingdom.”

Reflection:

Reflect on how you are living out this commission. Are you intentional in your conversations with friends, family, or colleagues? The Great Commission is more than a task; it’s a lifestyle. What steps can you take this week to live out God’s commission for your life?
