Trusting God

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Today marks the very first day of The Grove’s 40-day journey of prayer. As we begin this intentional season of drawing closer to God, what better foundation could there be than this call to wholehearted trust? Over the next 40 days, you will seek Him more deeply, surrender more fully, and watch how He shapes your life in ways only He can. Starting here, with Proverbs 3:5-6, sets the tone for everything that follows: a commitment to rely on God's wisdom rather than our own. These 40 days are leading us straight to Easter, preparing our hearts to remember and celebrate what Jesus has done: His perfect life, His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins, and above all, His victorious resurrection that defeats death and offers us eternal hope.

Life often presents us with decisions, uncertainties, and crossroads where our own logic feels insufficient or even misleading. We try to figure things out on our own, analyzing every angle, weighing pros and cons, or relying on past experiences and limited perspective. Yet Solomon reminds us that true wisdom begins with humble dependence on God rather than self-reliance. Trusting in the Lord with all our heart means giving Him full control, not holding back parts of our plans or fears for ourselves. It means refusing to lean on our own understanding when it conflicts with His direction, even when His way seems unclear or counterintuitive.

When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, inviting Him into every decision, every relationship, and every step, we position ourselves to receive His guidance. He promises to make our paths straight, not necessarily easy or without challenges, but directed, purposeful, and aligned with His perfect will. This straight path often becomes clear only in hindsight, as we look back and see how God faithfully led us through twists we never anticipated.

As we begin this 40 days of prayer, let this verse anchor your heart. As you commit to daily seeking Him, use this promise as your starting point: release control, invite His leadership, and trust that He is already at work making your paths straight for the journey ahead.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise You for being infinitely wiser and more loving than I could ever be. As I begin this 40-day season of prayer, help me to trust in You with all my heart today and throughout these days ahead. Release my need to understand everything on my own terms. Forgive me for the times I have leaned on my own understanding instead of seeking Your guidance. In all my ways, I acknowledge You: lead me, direct my steps, and make my paths straight according to Your perfect plan. Give me the faith to follow even when the way ahead is unclear, knowing You are faithful. Strengthen me for this journey of deeper dependence on You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
