Casting Anxieties on God

"Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
1 Peter 5:7
Within every season we are in, more often than not, there is something that brings about anxiety. The fear and unease of the unknown begin to fill our thoughts and start the many questions that don’t quite end. How do you parent a teenager? Why is my marriage struggling? Why am I not making friends? The list goes on and on. As the fear entangles us, we start to control and try to figure it out on our own, looking to our own strength and ability to navigate the worry that fills our hearts.

1 Peter 5:7 tells us what to do with our anxiety. Peter commands us to cast all our anxieties on God. The act of casting is to throw off or give up to someone. Throwing off or giving up is the process of completely letting go. God wants us to let go completely and give Him the fears and unknowns we easily hold onto. Not only does God want us to cast our anxieties to Him, but He wants us to cast ALL our anxieties on Him. Every single one. Small or big. Every worry or fear we should give to God.

Peter then tells us why we should give these anxieties to God: He cares for us. God DEEPLY cares for us and doesn’t want His children to hold onto their burdens. He wants us to give them to Him. He can carry them for us. We have a loving and mighty Father who wants to carry these fears and burdens, giving us strength in the midst of them. So when anxiety fills our mind, we can trust that our Heavenly Father will carry our worries for us and can find peace in the One who is able to give us strength and comfort.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise you for being loving and mighty. Thank you for caring so deeply and carrying my anxieties. God help me to cast my worries onto you, going to you when anxiety starts to fill my heart. Forgive me when I try to rely on my own strength and look to the world to comfort me. God you are my strength and comfort. Help me to remember this truth. I lift up my anxiety to you. Help me to let go of the fear that is entangling me and trust in you who can carry my worries. Guide me to daily release my anxieties to you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
