God as Refuge

“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah”
Psalm 62:8
Life has a way of exposing how fragile we are. Plans fall through, relationships have conflict, and fears surface that catch us off guard. In these moments, Psalm 62:8 gently, but firmly, reorients our hearts to “Trust in Him at all times” not only when life feels manageable, but also when it does not.

A refuge is more than a hiding place. It is a place of safety, rest, and protection. David does not instruct us to escape reality, but to bring our full selves before God. We are told to “Pour out your hearts before Him”. Put simply: be honest. God is not intimidated by our doubts, anger, grief, or confusion. He actually welcomes them. When we hold nothing back, we discover that God’s presence is powerful enough to hold everything we carry. God does his most powerful work within us when we get fully honest with him.

Trusting God as our refuge means we stop pretending we are self-sufficient or that control will keep us safe. Instead, we choose to rest in the unchanging character of God. Circumstances may shift, but our refuge remains the same.

When “life” happens, we often look for quick solutions or temporary shelters. Psalm 62 reminds us that true security is not found in answers, but in God Himself. He is not just a place we run to in crisis; He is a refuge at all times.

Today, whatever you’re facing, bring it to Him. Speak freely. Rest. God is your refuge.
Prayer: God, You know how quickly I try to hold everything together on my own. Today, I choose to trust You and pour out my heart honestly and without fear, knowing You can shoulder all we carry. When I feel uncertain, teach me to find refuge in You instead of searching for temporary safety. Thank You for being my steady refuge.
