Steadfast Trust

"He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord."
Psalm 112:7
What is your default reaction to troubling news? For many, it is fear and anxiety. Our minds race with questions. What if I don't get better? What if something happens to them? What if we lose everything? What if… What if… What if…

The problem is, we will never know the answer to the questions that fear and anxiety ask – at least not in the moment that we are consumed by them. It has been said, “Anxiety speaks in questions, intuition speaks in statements.” It is believed that our intuition is made up of a combination of our knowledge, past experiences, and emotional signals.

In order to shape our intuition around God’s Truth, we need to increase our knowledge of Him, recount His faithfulness in the past, and allow Him to mold our emotions around His character. When we do this, we can respond to any situation with peace in our hearts, knowing that we can trust Him. Then, when we encounter troubling news,  we can reframe those What if… questions into Even if… statements. We can acknowledge the news at hand, while trusting in God’s faithfulness and provision. Even if _______, I trust God will lead me through it.

What is troubling your heart today? Take a moment to reframe your questions of fear and anxiety into statements that affirm God’s faithfulness so that your heart will remain firm as you trust in Him.

Psalm 91:2 - I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Prayer: Father God, I thank You for who You are and what You have done for me. Thank You for not only covering my sin-debt, but also caring about every detail of my life. I pray that with anything that I am unsure of or anxious about, I can turn it over to You because You care. I trust in You, Lord, and know that You have my best in mind, even if I don’t always see it right away. Help me to put my questions of worry aside and rest in Your faithfulness.
