Unseen Eternal Glory

"For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:17-18
In 2 Corinthians 4 , Paul addresses suffering in the life of a follower of Jesus. He highlights the contrast between present day challenges and the eternity that awaits us.

In verse 17, he describes our current sufferings as light and momentary. This is not to say that trials and tribulations here on Earth are insignificant. However, the weight of these sufferings pales in comparison to the eternal weight of glory that is to come.

Our affliction on Earth is confined to the number of days of our lives. When we breathe our last or when Christ returns, we will spend forever and ever with King Jesus. An eternity in a place with no sorrow, no pain, and no tears.

In the meantime, we endure suffering by lifting our eyes from what troubles we face now and towards the eternity awaiting us.The eternity that followers of Jesus will receive through the gospel far outweighs any suffering we may endure here on earth. It is the redirection of our focus on eternity that comforts us in our present struggles. May this passage inspire and strengthen our faith as we endure various trials, always mindful of the surpassing glory that awaits us in Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Focus on eternal truths over temporary troubles.
Father, you are so good! I praise you for the gift it is to know you. Lord, would you  give me eyes that are fixed on eternity. I confess that I have been caught up in the trials and tribulations I face in my life. In the midst of difficulties here on Earth, would you remind me of what is to come. Would you give me joy and hope in all things because I know I will spend forever with you. I thank you for the gift of my salvation and the eternity that awaits me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
