God Hears the Faithful

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of their troubles.”
Psalm 34:17
There is something profoundly raw about Psalm 34, especially the promise that God delivers us from all our troubles. Praying with that kind of expectation can feel daunting, maybe even uncomfortable. What do we do with the healing that hasn’t come, the child who remains distant, the relationship that still needs restoration, or the job that was never replaced? Sometimes we temper our prayers, not because we doubt God’s power, but because it might not unfold the way we hoped.

But David understood that it wasn’t so much about the outcome as it was about knowing who God is. He remained faithful, pressing into trust in the sovereign, holy, true, and just God no matter what. In his own beautiful words, he reminded himself of the truth. He praised God with thanksgiving. He sang of God’s goodness. He recounted God’s faithfulness that when he sought the Lord, the Lord answered him and delivered him from his fears.

It’s okay to wrestle in this with the Lord. To cry out, “God, I don’t understand what You’re doing, but You are greater than my circumstances. You know the plan. You are the way. I take refuge in You.” As Jesus reminds us, even in trouble and tribulation (John 16:33), He has overcome it all.

So we can pray with confidence, with the same faith David had, seeking first the One who holds all things together. Remaining steadfast. God invites us to call on His name, to believe, and to trust Him not just for what He can do, but for who He is.
Prayer: Lord, today I cry out to you with a bold new faith. Your word says in Matthew 7:7 to  “ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find: knock and it will be opened to you”. I ask for deliverance from whatever is holding me back from fully knowing you, Father. I confess that I have asked in fear at times because I doubted who you are and what you can do. Please forgive me. Help my unbelief. I want to seek you to SEE and KNOW you. I know that you hear my prayers and my cries for help because of your great love for me. I can find rest in the peace that surpasses all understanding. Because of who you are, Lord, I praise you! I give thanks for all you have done and all that you will do. All glory to you, God!
