God's Promises Are Yes

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory."
2 Corinthians 1:20
In 2nd Corinthians 1, the apostle Paul was dealing with a church concerned about broken promises by him and his companions. Paul’s travel plans had changed, resulting in a delay of a promised visit to Corinth, causing doubt as to his reliability and, by extension, the message of the gospel that he preached. He was reassuring the church not only of his trustworthiness but also that of his message.

Throughout the Old Testament, God made numerous promises of deliverance, blessing, forgiveness, and ultimately, salvation through the Messiah, and Paul was assuring the church that all of God’s promises can be trusted because they are all fulfilled in the person and work of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 5:17, Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”

Our lives today can be filled with broken promises. Products we buy often don’t deliver as advertised, political figures can backtrack on their campaign pledges, and friends or family can disappoint us by going back on their word. Despite these shifting sands of a sinful and fallen world, we can always stand on the solid rock of God’s faithfulness by trusting in Jesus as our Savior & Lord.

In Jesus, we can find the forgiveness, restoration, healing, and hope that we seek, which should lead us to “utter our Amen” to God in gratitude and joy, all for the display of his splendor.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am thankful that I can come to you as your adopted child and that you hear my prayers. My prayer today is that you help me to always trust in your goodness and love even when trials and troubles occur in my life. Help me to remember that your son Jesus is proof positive of your faithfulness and love for me and that by trusting in him as my Savior & Lord I can find the forgiveness, restoration, healing, and hope that I seek. Help me to be ever thankful and to live my life in a way that brings honor and glory to your name. I ask all this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
