Trusting God's Provision

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
Matthew 6:33
Often, we say, “I trust God will provide,” yet we live as if everything depends on our own effort and ability. Our schedules, finances, and decisions are quietly shaped by the fear of not having enough. In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks directly to this tension and calls us to a different way of living.

If our life is not to be consumed by fretting over basic needs, then what is our concern to be? The answer is, His kingdom and His righteousness. The call is to order our lives around God’s rule and His priorities first above all other things of this world. Security and safety come from God, not our resources. We can rest in knowing that we have a good Father who takes care of His children, providing what we need each day. We can trust Him in this, because He already met our greatest need…our need to be saved. God’s provision of a savior came through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. If God did not withhold His son from us, then surely we can trust him with everything we need.

So how do we know if we are truly seeking the kingdom of God first? Well, how do you manage your time, your effort, your finances? Are these things invested into resources that will certainly perish? Or, are they first and foremost being used to love God with everything and lead others to do the same?

As we pray and fast, would God reveal where worry has taken root and reorient our hearts to seek His kingdom first.
Prayer: Lord, you alone are worthy of my praise. You are a good God who provides for His children, and there is joy in knowing you. There are moments when I find security in my finances, my schedule, my efforts. Would you help me reorient my heart to find security in you. I thank you for the ways you have provided for me time and time again. I thank you for providing Jesus to die so that I may have life. Would you reveal to me the areas of my life where I am not relying on you, and help me depend on you in a greater way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
