Victory in Faith

"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:57
There is a popular song many churches sing that declares, “I’m fighting a battle You’ve already won… I don’t know what You’re doing, but I know what You’ve done.” That lyric captures the heartbeat of 1 Corinthians 15:57. Because of what Jesus has already accomplished on the cross, the battle that matters most has been settled. Death no longer has the final word, and its sting has been removed.

This means I no longer have to fear death or live under its shadow. I can look ahead, immovable, to the day when this body marked by sin and decay will be no more. What awaits is a glorified body, untouched by sin, temptation, or fear. Outside of being in the presence of the resurrected Jesus Himself, this may be the greatest hope of heaven: freedom from the brokenness of a world corrupted by sin, namely the sin that still resides within me.

This is not wishful thinking. This is the confident hope of every person who has placed their trust in Christ. It is what Jesus purchased for us when He died a sinner’s death on a criminal’s cross and rose again in victory.

Because of that, disciples of Jesus do not live in bondage or depend on our ability to measure up. We rest. We endure. We persevere. Not because we are strong, but because we have a living Savior who has already paid it all.
Prayer: Jesus, we thank you because you are our victory. Not our morality, not our efforts, not our sacrifices. You and you alone are the one who gives us victory. Help us to live by faith, trusting not in the works of our hands, but in the hands that were pierced on our behalf. We thank you for all that you have done, and we look forward to that glorious day when we see you in all your majesty. Blessed be the name of Jesus.
